SUMMER 2008

Fundamentals of footwork, timing, and styling will be covered during these classes, with emphasis on dance position, and easy leading/following techniques, giving you the proper dance skills to execute each of these exciting dances.

 

Teaching Monday and Tuesday Evenings Year-Round

All students must pre-register and prepayment required for ALL Group Classes.

Class Information

 

Beginner Class: (Level I) 

This class is designed to introduce the student to the basic foundations of various dances. No previous dance experience required. This class is also for Bronze-level dancers not yet comfortable with the basic patterns and techniques of dance, or more advanced dancers new to a particular dance and/or style. Basic school figures will be taught, with an emphasis on listening to the music, learning the timing, and developing a comfort ability in working with your dance partner.

 

Beyond Beginner Class: (Level II) 

Students at this level must demonstrate a sound foundation in footwork, timing, lead & follow techniques, musicality, and dance terminology in at least the six main dances. Students should have 1-2 years of formal instruction, and dance socially on a regular basis.

 

Intermediate/Advanced Class: (Level II +)  

This level class will be more intensive. The figures will be more complex and challenging. Students should be dancing socially regularly, and must have completed at least 2-3 years of dance instruction on a regular basis. Knowledge of the more popular dances is essential.

 

Classes  are taught on Monday and Tuesday evenings year-round  - see schedule above. 

All classes are group classes and will run for four weeks (exceptions noted above), covering one dance. 

For executing all dances comfortably, it is recommended that leather soled shoes be worn.

 Classes are one hour in length.

Look for our new class schedule posted quarterly.

Refreshments served after class.

 

Tuition:

All classes are $10.00 per person per class ($40.00 / month)

Pre-registration: Because of the high enrollments and waiting list at Shall We Dance?,

all students must pre-register and prepay their tuition prior to the first class to insure a space.

Verbal sign ups will not necessarily assure you space.

 

Location:

West Dennis Graded School Building, School Street, West Dennis

 

Directions:

From Yarmouth on Rte. 28, cross the Bass River Bridge - go to West Dennis Center,

turn Right on School Street. (Auto Repair Shop on Corner).

Large old  School Building on your right. Parking available on side and back.

From Harwich, on Rte 28, go past  the West Dennis Christmas Tree Shop to the

center of the village, turn Left on School Street

 

Private Lessons 

Private lessons are available to fine-tune your dance technique, or to expand your knowledge of any particularly favorite dance you might want to learn by appointment only.

Classes are one-hour in length.

 

Notes:

 

* Since private lessons are frequently taught from 5:45 to 6:45,

we ask that you not arrive for group classes earlier than 6:45.

* For executing all dances comfortably,

it is recommended that leather soled shoes be worn.

Open toed shoes for ladies are discouraged.

 

 Gift Certificates 

Need a unique gift ?  Remember that someone special for an anniversary, birthday,

or "just because". You may purchase a certificate for group or private lessons.
